Opening Your Pool for the Season

The recent flares of warm weather mean pool season is almost upon us. Opening a pool doesn’t need to be a daunting task. With proper preparation, it can be surprisingly simple and manageable. Anthony & Sylvan Pools wants to help you have an easy and safe pool-opening experience, while keeping your pool safe. Below are the top tips to remember when opening your pool this spring.

Safety first.

Remember to check the stability of any pool fences, decks, chairs, fixtures (including pool ladders, railings, dive boards, etc.) and pool maintenance equipment. Be sure to lubricate all metal bolts and O-rings to prevent rust buildup and ensure easy pool closing come winter.

Remove the cover.

If your pool cover has collected water, use a pump specifically made to remove water from pool covers to clear the water before you remove the cover. If desired, use a pool net to remove any debris. Next, gently remove the cover, using a partner as needed. Lay the cover out flat to dry before gently folding and storing.

Start it up.

Make sure the water level in the pool is up to the middle of the skimmer before starting the pump for the first time. When it comes to running the pool equipment, simply reverse the steps you took when closing the pool. This includes hooking up the filter, pump, replacing skimmer baskets, etc. Make sure there are no leaks or cracks. Remember to always contact your local A&S pool professional, as needed.

Get sparkling clean water.

Shock the water to deep clean it. Make sure the water has a stable chemical balance and is visibly clean and clear before diving in. This can be achieved by running the pool equipment nonstop for 48-72 hours. Keep your pool sparkling throughout the pool season by following normal pool maintenance procedures, and using algaecides as needed.

“We know personally how exciting it can be to finally reopen a pool,” said Tom Casey, Vice President of Sales at Anthony & Sylvan Pools. “We want to maximize this excitement throughout the opening process because pools are meant to be enjoyed! Proper pool care is crucial to get the most out of your swimming pool. These important tips, along with proper regular maintenance, are a recipe for relaxing and creating fun pool moments shared with friends and family.
