A recent University of South Carolina study led by Dr. Steven Blair compiled the results of a 32-year study of thousands of people enrolled in the Aerobics Center Longitudinal Study (ACLS) and published in the International Journal of Aquatic Education and Research.
To summarize – “Swimmers had the lowest death rate”, explained Dr. Blair. The study takes into account age, body mass index, smoking status, alcohol intake, hypertension and other medical factors…but the conclusions are clear: “People who swim for exercise have better survival rates than their sedentary peers.”
Anthony & Sylvan Pools has been preaching the same message for the past two decades, as was Anthony Pools and Sylvan Pools before them. Swimming is the best aerobic exercise known to man. We’ve known this for a lifetime, and it’s now verified (again) by the study
Dr. Blair also found that regular swimmers had a higher cardiorespiratory fitness rate than walkers and sedentary people – so the more you swim the better it gets!
